Ohana Preparatory School – Academics

Academics in Action: Where the Value of Learning Comes Alive
Education at Ohana Prep goes far beyond the textbook. While our core curriculum provides a strong foundation in English, math, science, social studies, and world languages, students see the value of what they are learning. Through real-world projects, specialized STEAM electives, and immersive local internships, we help students turn knowledge into application.

What Project-Based Learning Means for Your Child

Project-based learning means your child does not just read about a concept, they apply it: designing, building, testing, and presenting real projects alongside teachers and, where possible, the working professionals near the Dania Beach campus. It is a hands-on complement to a strong academic core, not a replacement for it.

Small Classes and a Flexible Schedule

Students balancing competitive athletics, dance, music, or visual and performing arts training need a schedule that works with those commitments, not against them. Ohana Prep's small-cohort model is designed with that flexibility in mind.

STEAM Electives

Students choose from STEAM electives designed around the industries shaping tomorrow's careers.

Robotics

Hands-on, team-based design and engineering challenges

Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

An introduction to how AI systems work and how to build with them responsibly

Aeronautics and Flight Simulation

Flight principles and aerospace systems explored through simulation technology

Arts and Design

A design practice grounded in real materials, tools, and critique

Internships/Externships

Students start with short, immersive experiences like guest speakers and site tours, then move into hands-on internships and externships. These build employer connections, earn service hours, and offer insights that guide students through key decisions.

Early Exploration

Guest speakers and short externships connect classroom learning to real-world careers.

Hands-On Experience

Non-paid workplace internships offer meaningful employer connections, service hours for college applications, and practical skill-building.

Personalized Growth

By strengthening our Ohana network, we help students make confident, incremental life decisions aligned with their individual strengths and passions.

Ohana Prep's Approach to AI

AI is already part of how work gets done, and at Ohana Prep, students learn to use it responsibly. Teachers set clear expectations per assignment, whether AI is a research partner, a drafting aid, or off-limits, so students build real judgment, not habits.

Study How It Works

Students learn how machine learning systems are built, where they fail, and what responsible development looks like in practice.

Use It with Disclosure

Clear, assignment-level expectations teach transparency rather than suspicion, guiding students to document how and why they used AI.

Defend the Thinking

Students present and defend projects in person to teachers and professionals, proving their understanding cannot be outsourced.

Empowering Critical Thinking and Original Thought While Using AI Responsibly

Artificial intelligence is changing how students learn, write, and solve problems. At Ohana Prep, we teach students to use it with judgment—as a tool for deeper learning, not a shortcut around it.

Our approach is deliberate: teachers introduce a skill, students practice it together and independently, and only then does AI enter the process. Students learn to question, verify, and explain its output while protecting academic integrity, original thought, and authentic voice. Assessments ensure that every student demonstrates their own knowledge and growth.

Supported by Kaplan’s academic resources and our small, advisory-style classes, this approach keeps each student’s thinking at the center while preparing them to use AI thoughtfully and ethically in college and beyond.
